Exercise Area Databases

Kongsberg Maritime Simulation Inc. produces geographic area databases. These databases describe the characteristics of the visual scene, radar, situation plot (Instructor “bird’s eye view” or chart database), water depths, coastline and electronic charts.  All navigation aids and mooring and pier objects are included.  Kongsberg Maritime Simulation Inc. has developed a “Database Protocol” to define and document the procedures for designing and developing a geographic database.  This provides step-by-step procedures and assures consistency and quality across all databases.

Each geographic area database will include the following:

To ensure consistency, quality assurance, and validation of the geographic databases, Kongsberg Maritime Simulation Inc. develops a Database Specification Document to set out the description and specifications of the database.  The Database Specification is the blueprint for the compilation of the Kongsberg Maritime POLARIS Radar and SeaView Visual System database.  The Specification defines the database geographic limits, and levels of detail and development to be built into the database.  The specified levels of detail, landmark/coastline development, prioritization of navigation routes, and the stipulations for berthing jetties will be the same for both radar and visual segments of the database.

Databases are available from the Kongsberg Maritime Library or can be custom-built to meet your particular requirements.
